Resources For Texas Distance Learning

Texas has a thriving distance learning program. Almost all major universities offer some form of Texas distance learning. These schools include the University of Texas (the main campus at Austin and many of its satellite campuses), the University of North Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Central Texas College. In addition to Texas distance learning at these state schools, numerous private institutions like Rice University and Abilene Christian University also offer online degree programs.

These two websites may also be helpful for students interested in Texas distance learning:

Texas Electronic Campus (www.txelectroniccampus.org) - an online Texas distance learning warehouse where students can search an inventory of more than 3,400 online courses and 18 degree programs. Also provides links to colleges and universities, course descriptions, and information about specific distance learning programs in Texas.

Texas Distance Learning Association (www.txdla.org) - the leading Texas membership association for distance learning students in Texas. The TXDLA aims to "provide an accessible clearinghouse of useful information that is non-biased, timely, and transcends the special interests that provide only fragmented pieces of the big picture." It was formed in 1996 by Texas leaders in primary and secondary public schools, community colleges, higher education institutions, state government, major corporations, the military, and the telecommunications industry. The website offers news and information related to all aspects of distance learning, for both students and teachers.
