Your preparation for an oral report will be much the same as a written report with a couple of critical differences. Your research and use of note cards will need to go through the same kinds of steps as preparing your written report. However, your parameter this time is not pages, but the assigned length of your talk in minutes. This will dictate to you that your subject must be narrowed down to effectively cover the topic within that period of time. The important word in that last sentence is "effectively." Just as in your written report, your goal is not to skim a broad subject, but get to the meat of a more narrow focus. For most people, the hardest part of fulfilling a speaking assignment is settling on a specific topic. Getting that done will take a great deal of pressure off of the whole situation.
